Abstract

In the mfr. of a bituminous binder from bitumen, scrap rubber and a petroleum distillate are added. Pref., 5-13% (esp. about 10%) scrap rubber peel and 2.5-5% (esp. about 5%) of a heavy aromatic oil fraction are kneaded with the bitumen for several hrs. at about 160 deg.C. The scrap rubber is cheaper than the elastomers usually used, and the oil stops its particles agglomerating. The binder has penetration value equal to that of the best bituminous binders.
