Abstract

Coloured plastic sheet with a shimmering appearance is made from transparent sheet having a mat texture on one face, due to an adjacent coating or base. The mat surface may be due to application of a coating of a mat varnish, having a colour identical to or differing from that of the transparent sheet, pref. being a slightly darker shade of the same colour, opt. printed on by any convenient technique in a pattern to resemble a textile. Esp. claimed for decorative effects from sheets made of polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride or polyurethane resins tinted using complex organic metal salts and/or pigments having a refractive index similar to that of the base resin. The scintillating sheet may be backed by an adhesive-bonded support comprising either a cellular plastic layer or a fabric. Applicable to (waterproof) clothing, soft furnishings, shoes, decorations, etc.
