Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a machine for carding insulating materials of the kind of those which are generally in the form of fibers compressed so as to occupy a minimum space during transport.
Such fibers are intended for thermal and sound insulation of constructions and their implementation is carried out by insufflation, an operation which requires a prior division of the compressed mass.
Currently, carding machines are used comprising a hopper at the bottom of which is disposed a carding member constituted by a rotary shaft having rigid radial arms.
Experience has shown that such a machine is dangerous because the carding member behaves, in fact, like a set of rotary knives.
Furthermore, it has been found that for a given mass of compressed fibers, the increase in volume after passing through the machine was not sufficient. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that the arms of the carding member break the fibers and that this results in a greater density of the carded product.
The present invention, which overcomes these drawbacks, is remarkable in that the carding member is produced, in its simplest form, by a rotary brush.
La figure I est une vue en perspective, avec arrachement partiel, d'une machine conforme à l'invention;
The invention will be better understood from the description which follows, made with reference to the attached drawing by way of indicative example only, in which
Figure I is a perspective view, partially broken away, of a machine according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a partial view, in section.
Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that the machine essentially consists of a hopper 1, in which the product to be carded is placed, the outlet orifice 2 of which is connected, by means of a fan 3, to an evacuation pipe 4.
According to the invention, the bottom of the hopper 1 comprises a rotary brush 5, with flexible bristles, these being preferably made of plastic material such as those called "nylon" or "rilsan". The brush is driven by an electric motor 6.
The use of a rotating brush has many advantages. Thus, the untimely introduction of the operator's hand into the machine is without danger.
It was also found that for a given mass of product, the volume of the carded product was much greater than that resulting from the use of a rigid carding member of the aforementioned type.
Finally, experience has shown that, when the machine was used for very abrasive products, such as rock wool, the life of the rotary brush was much longer than that of the usual carding devices.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the brush 5 cooperates with a comb 7 made integral with the hopper. The comb 7 is formed in the same way as the brush 5 and, preferably, the bristles of one are inserted between those of the other, as shown in FIG. 2.
Naturally, means are provided to allow the positioning of the comb 7 relative to the brush 5 to be adjusted.
The section of the outlet orifice 2 can be adjusted by means of a shutter 8 while that of the orifice 9 of an air inlet can be adjusted by a shutter 10.
Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown but extends, on the contrary, to all variants of materials, shapes and dimensions.
Thus, among other things, one could use several parallel brushes.
Thus, again, we could use brushes whose bristles, directed towards the product to be treated,
extend substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the brush.
Finally, it should be noted that the internal walls of the hopper are treated with a paint comprising an abrasion-resistant product.
Naturally, the use of the machine is not limited to the treatment of fibrous products but it also extends to that of compact materials, such as blocks of synthetic foam, which can be reduced into light grains by the action of rotating brushes.
