Abstract

The motor vehicle antitheft mechanism activates a steering lock or a break in the vehicle's electric circuit when the key is withdrawn from the lock. To prevent hazard arising from unwanted activation of the safety lock, the key is trapped in place to prevent withdrawal without an additional action by the driver. A lever (6) is pivoted on one side of the lock barrel (11) and passes below the key (2), fitting into a notch in the key profile. A spring (9) holds the lever in place to trap the key, and the lever is drawn clear of the key by a pull cable (12) operated by the driver when the key is to be withdrawn.
