Abstract

The two-part cylindrical electrical connectors with a plastics ring coupling of the type consist of spiral grooves which engage with lugs on the mating connector are subject to wearing of the coupling ring. The effects of wear are reduced and the life of the plastics coupling ring extended if it is lined with a band of metal. A metal strip (10) of steel or berrylium copper is shaped with curved slots (11). This is then inserted into the forward part of the plastics coupling ring (20) and forms the inside walls of the retaining ring with helical slots. The retaining ring is held axially on the connector body by plastics finqers (22) which engage in a circular groove in the connector body and so that it can freely rotate.
