Abstract

The rubber insert may have metal reinforcement and is placed inside the pipe over the whole length exposed to the risk of freezing. It has a section adapted to the pipe section, e.g. circular, rectangular, semi-circular, and it is compressible to prevent the production of too great internal pressures during freezing. The insert has a series of longitudinal channel sections allowing the free flow of liq. with walls between them which are compressed as the liq. freezes. If the insert (2) is to be used in a solar collector, it is positioned with the metal tube (1) under the glass sheet (3).
