Abstract

The seedling box is made up of two halves, one of which (1) is in the form of a rectangular parallelepiped which has no base. This part has two long sides which are perforated and one short side. The second part (2) has a planar base, one short side and two long perforated sides. The two parts slide into one another to form a four-sided rectangular tray. The seedlings are watered by pointed hoses which direct water through the lateral perforations.

Containers deserve to be used more in agriculture.fls allow significant savings in area, time, fertilizer, water, weedkiller, etc.

Here we essentially offer different models of containers with removable bottom intended to remain more or less definitively with the plant, when planting in the ground, and which make it possible to minimize the shock of transplantation, while leading to deep rooting .For rooting - in the ground we offer different types of pipes and other containers that allow direct delivery of water and fertilizers to deep roots.

We have been able to buy for a few years young trees, about 3m high, in 20-liter plastic bucket species. Successfully developing root systems as powerful in this reduced volume is a remarkable novelty. the growth in the open ground of such a tree will often be bad because there will be transplant shock due to the fact that we will have pulled on the stem to remove the container and the fact that the lateral roots and those of the bottom will be brutally put in contact with a much less favorable, sometimes dry, environment.

The spiraling of the roots will be such that rooting will not take place in depth. According to A. Riedacker's patent of July 1, 1976: "Containers for forest and ornamental plants" (no 2,356,360 A1.76 201 61 - A01G 9/02 B 65D 85/50) it would then be advisable to take containers with sharp anglets to bring the roots down. I think it is more important to bring the water and the fertilizers directly in the depths , without going through the top roots, and using elongated containers.

In the following description, and before proposing container modes for shrubs, we will describe models whose bottom is removed by sliding and intended to receive seedlings and to be placed in the ground with young plants.

Let us take two rectangular milk cartons of 1 liter emptied by a reduced opening. In one (1) cut two large opposite rectangular faces (figure), in the other (9) a small face and a large face. The first fitted in the second is a container in which we can sow and which can be placed in the ground after a few weeks, when the plants are a few cm; it will suffice to remove the part (23 by sliding, leaving (1) definitively The recovery will be done without visible transplant shock, as I could verify on seedlings of beans, parsley, salad, etc. Such boxes will be grouped by ten in a crate and possibly kept tilted in the direction that allows the evacuation of excess water. A crate can also serve as a basic cell, without cardboard, making the bottom removable by sliding.

For containers without bottom or with removable bottom intended for shrubs, one can think in the first place of pipes out of terra cotta; out of sheet or PVC. But this process is definitely less advantageous than that which uses squares of sheet metal or plastic rolled up and held in place by wires, because if the container stays in place, the tree will have less trouble widening the space around the trunk; moreover, removing the plate will be easier than that In addition, at the nurseryman, there will be the problem of the progressive increase in the diameter and the height of the container, and we can pass without shock transplanting a container formed of a plate 25 x 25 cm to another 50 x 50 cm, therefore approximately 14 cm in diameter, the plate overlapping a few cm.

At the same time as the containers, we can sell agglomerates of soil and fertilizers with optimal characteristics for each species of plant and free of weed germs by stockpiling for example. These agglomerates will not necessarily be bomogenous, but with different layers, or with different vertical columns. This is how marl columns can constitute reserves of water (buffering effect), limestone, potassium (glauconie marl) of organic matter (oil marl) etc. .

For watering plants in depth, we offer different methods and models: pipes plugged at the bottom with small side openings, pointed plastic cylinders at the bottom (planter type) intended to be inserted in the middle of the roots, recovery glass bottles closed by a fabric plug, sunken upside down in the middle of the roots and emptying in one or more: weeks maintaining constant humidity.

Your possibilities offered by the recovery of food containers are not sufficiently exploited, in France at least. It is up to the manufacturer of food products to organize such recovery by notifying it on its packaging.
