Abstract

A machine for trimming the circumferential edge of an open tart or flan prior to baking. Trimming takes place after the unbaked tart base has been filled and a cover applied over the filling. The machine has a supporting plate on which the tart is positioned coaxially beneath a trimming die. The trimming die is brought down upon the tart by the descending piston rod of a fluid power cylinder. The fluid can be supplied to the cylinder by a pump which may be manually operated or electrically powered. Pref. the die has an annular cutter which trims the circumference of the tart. Pref. the die also presents an impressing ring set coaxially within the cutter and of less height than the cutter. All trimmed tarts are of similar size and appearance. Trimming is easier and quick than when carried out manually. The amount of offcut waste is reduced.
