Abstract

The transmission varies progressively, when desired, the length of stroke of a piston, of an engine or pump. Each piston has two connecting rods and two crankshafts, disposed symmmetrically. The two crankshafts can move apart or together to modify the angle of the connecting rods to the cylinder. The stroke alteration takes place without interrupting engine or pump working. This allows, with constant angular speed, a higher linear piston speed to be obtained during firing and expansion than during the compression stroke. A screw adjusts the crankshaft spacing.
