Abstract

The process for attaching magnetic poles into a motor casing is partic. suitable for constructing starter motors. The pole pieces (3) on which a winding (2) is formed has a concave surface facing the rotor of the motor, and a smaller convex surface fitting against the casing (1) of the motor. The convex surface has a dovetail shaped hole cut in it, the hole (4a) becoming wider as it cuts deeper into the pole piece. With the pole piece in situ inside the casing, a small part of the casing material is pushed through so that it touches the bottom of the dovetail hole. The projection is then further enlarged using a suitable tool so that it extends across the full width of the base of the hole, securing the pole piece to the casing. The technique does not require the accurate alignment which is necessary for rivetting or screw fitting.

Description

PROCEDE DE FIXATION DES MASSES POLAIRES DANS UNE CARCASSE DE MACHI-
NE ELECTRIQUE.
METHOD FOR FIXING POLAR MASSES IN A MACHI CARCASS
DOES NOT ELECTRIC.

The present invention relates to a method of fixing the polar masses in an electric machine casing, in particular for a motor vehicle starter inductor.

In known starters, the polar masses are fixed inside the carcass either by means of screws, either by riveting or by pushing back the carcass material in cavities produced in the polar masses along an oblique axis by relative to the axis of the polar masses.

In the first case the mass is drilled and then tapped, the carcass drilled and milled, in the second case it is also necessary to pierce the carcass and provide either a counterbore or a milling of the carcass, the rivet coming from material with the polar mass.

In the third case, it is very difficult to repel the carcass material obliquely to make it penetrate confidently into the oblique cavities of the polar mass.

I1 is also known to push with a cylindrical punch the carcass material in a conical cavity forming a mortise made in the mass, or the pushing method used to date does not allow to obtain a correct development of the material of the carcass in the polar mass, the maintenance of the latter then becoming very uncertain.

In addition, in the first cases, very precise indexing of the assembly: polar mass, carcass and fixing means, is essential.

The present invention aims to remedy all these drawbacks and to this end relates to a method of fixing the pole masses in an electric machine casing, in particular for a starter of a motor vehicle in which the inductor circuit comprises pole masses which maintain an inductor winding. against the carcass by the penetration, by pushing back, of the carcass material into at least one conical cavity situated on the face of the masses coming into contact against the inside of the carcass and the smallest diameter of which is on said face of the masses, process characterized in that it consists in repelling the material of the carcass according to two concentric diameters, the smallest of which descends deeper into the material of the carcass than the large diameter, so that the large diameter ensures penetration of the carcass material in the conical cavity of the polar mass, and the small diameter ensures the development of this ma against the entire conical wall of the cavity.

The description which follows with reference to the appended figures will make it easier to understand how the invention can be implemented.

Figure 1 shows in section an inductor circuit before final assembly.

Figure 2 shows in section an inductor circuit obtained from a known method of fixing the polar masses.

Figure 3 shows in section an inductor circuit obtained from a method of fixing the polar masses according to the invention.

According to FIG. 1, the inductor circuit consists of an inductor winding 2 held against the internal wall of the carcass 1 by means of a polar mass 3.

This polar mass 3 comprises at least one orifice 4 of conical shape and whose small diameter 4a is located outside the mass.

FIG. 2 represents a connection obtained from the repelling of the material of the carcass 1 using a simple tool of form S. The repelled material 6 penetrates into the orifice 4 but does not manage to flourish in this orifice there is therefore no jamming of the mass 3 between the carcass 1 and the material 6 which does not ensure the fixing of the mass. 3 in the carcass 1.

In accordance with the invention, the method consists firstly in pushing the material 8 from the carcass 1 inside the orifice 4 to the bottom of this orifice using a tool whose diameter 10 can be of the same dimension as the opening 4a of the orifice 4, thus ensuring good penetration of a maximum of material.

The following operation consists in ensuring the blooming of the material 8 against all along the walls 4b of the orifice 4, by means of a tool of diameter 9 smaller than the opening 4a.

In this way, an effective pinching of the mass 4 is carried out between the carcass 1 and the material 8 which has opened out.

Using such a method, the indexing of the carcass and of the various tools no longer needs to be very precise and, as a result, an assembly thus obtained is very economical and very reliable.

It is obvious that modifications may be made to such an embodiment without departing from the scope of the invention, for example the two tools of different diameters may be combined into one whose imprint 7 will ensure the proper maintenance of masses inside the carcass.
