Abstract

A rigid composite roofing matl. comprises a layer of rot proof non-woven matting coated on the underside with a layer of waterproof mtl. and on the upper surface with a layer of rigid resin dressed with mineral aggregates. Suitable for covering horizontal, sloping or vertical surfaces, opt. are moulded to resemble conventional roofing materials, e.g. Roman-style tiles. Pref. the matting is made from polyester filaments. The waterproof layer may be a coating of bitumen or a layer of PVC sheet, opt. used as an interlayer bonding together two layers of matting. The composite may incorporate continuous cords or tapes pre-extended to maintain the sheet in a stressed condition. Opt. the underside of the composite is lined with a (thick) layer of thermal insulation, specifically or phenolic foam or cellular plaster; the layer of insulation may incorporate ancillary supporting rafters. Pref. the composite board can be shaped by pressing at less than 100, pref. 60-80 deg.C.
