Abstract

The front ski binding has a clamp (9) elastically articulated round an axle (8) perpendicular to the ski. It can slide on a support (12) articulated round the axle and carries two rollers (21). These are held on either side of the support by springs (20) against a fixed cam (7) in front of the clamp. The cam has a mainly flat central zone (7a) and two flat lateral wings (7c) in front of it. They are joined to the central zone by two inclined zones (7b). The rollers are in contact with the joints between the wings and the inclined zones.

Description

The invention relates to a front stop for ski binding; and it relates more precisely to a front stop of the type of those whose triggering is elastic and whose return to normal position after triggering is automatic.

The stops of this type are appreciated, but are generally complex and heavy, which leads to limit their use on the so-called piste skis, on which the weight of the stop matters little. It is therefore with a view to satisfying not only downhill skiing, but also ski touring that the stopper which is the subject of the invention was designed, a stopper which combines the qualities of safety and reliability, the advantages simplicity and lightness.

In this stop, the jaw is slidably mounted on a support which is articulated around an axis perpendicular to the ski, and it carries two members which, situated on either side of this support, are held in support by at least one spring. against a fixed cam located in front of the jaw.

This cam which constitutes a part of the body of the stop has a suitable profile to allow and facilitate the movement of the jaw which, when triggered, performs a combined movement of rotation and translation, thanks to which the release of the shoe of the skier is safe and fast. The cam has, for this purpose, a substantially flat central zone extending laterally by two wings, and the two support members of the jaw are normally in contact with the two ends of the central zone. These two bodies are advantageously constituted by two rollers whose axes are perpendicular to the ski.

As for the elastic system which keeps the jaw in abutment against the cam and allows on the one hand the elastic release of the stop and on the other hand its automatic return to neutral position1 it preferably comprises two springs which are placed in two housings arranged in the two wings of the jaw and are supported by one of their ends at the bottom of these housings and by their other end on nuts screwed onto threaded rods passing through said wings and connected to the support of the jaw. It is by the degree of screwing of these two nuts on the two threaded rods that it is possible to adjust the tightening and triggering rates of the stop.

The invention will be well understood moreover, and its advantages as well as other characteristics will emerge clearly from the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing representing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of this front stop for ski binding, in the particular case of a stop intended to equip a ski touring
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view along 1-1 of Figure 2,
Figure 2 is a plan view from above,
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view along 3-3 of Figure i, when the stop is in the neutral position, that is to say in the normal position of use, and
Figure 4 is the same view, when the stop is in the triggering phase.

In FIG. 1, 1 illustrates the upper face of a ski on which is fixed a yoke-shaped support 2 inside which is articulated around a horizontal axis 2 the front part of a plate 4 on which is fixed the front stop designated generally by 5 and on which the skier's shoe rests.

It is this stop 5 which constitutes the object of the invention. On a base element 6 are fixed a part ce having a general shape of U layer and open towards the rear, and a screw 8 which crosses the two wings of this U and whose head 8a rests on its upper wing .

The part 7, which can be considered as constituting the body of the stop, has the particular profile visible in Figures 1,3 and 4; it comprises a flat vertical central part 7a which, by two inclined zones 7b, is connected to two other lateral flat zones 7c which are situated in front with respect to the central zone 7a.

The screw 8 carried by the body 7 of the stop serves as a support element for the jaw 9 of the stop. This jaw which, as is known per se, has the profile necessary to grip the front part of the sole of the shoe, has a housing 10 allowing it to be mounted and to slide horizontally on a member 12 which serves as a support using screw 8.

This member 12 has, in effect, a tapped hole with a vertical axis, through which this screw 8 passes. Thus, by acting on the head 8a of this screw, it is possible, by rotation of the screw, to raise or lower the member 12 and therefore the jaw 9 in order to adapt its level to the thickness of the sole of the shoe.

Elastic connecting means are further provided between the member 12 and the jaw e. These means are constituted by two threaded rods 13 which pass successively through horizontal holes 14 arranged in the wings of the jaw 9, and li holes arranged obliquely in the member 12; and the heads 16 of these threaded rods li are placed in a housing 18 arranged in the front part of the member 12. On each of the two threaded rods li is screwed a nut 19 which is mounted free in rotation and in translation in a bore 14 of each wing of the jaw 9; and a helical spring 20 is interposed concentrically with the threaded rod 13 between this nut li and the annular bottom of the bore 14.

It is finally essential to note that the jaw 9 carries, in its front part, two lateral rollers 21 thanks to which it bears against the abutment body 7 under the effect of the thrust exerted by the two springs 20.

These springs are in fact fixed support by their rear end against the nuts 19 which themselves are rigidly connected with the threaded rods li whose heads are supported on the central member 12; and said springs 20 thus tend to constantly push, by their front end, the jaw 9 in the direction of the front, which causes said jaw to bear by its two rollers 21 against the abutment body 7.

It is important to note that the support of the rollers 21 on the abutment body IL takes place in the connection zone between the zones fl and the zones iS, as shown in FIG. 3. This is the neutral position of the stop, i.e. the position in which it is normally used.

In the hypothesis, where the front part of the skier's shoe exerts a lateral force on one of the wings of the jaw, for example in the direction of the arrow 22 in FIG. 4, the central member 12 is necessarily subjected has an effort tending to rotate it in the same direction around the screw 8, but this rotational movement which, of course, weft that of the whole of the jaw 9 is necessarily accompanied by a translational movement of this jaw along this member 12, thanks to the displa cemer.t of one of the rollers 21 which rolls on the ramp formed by the zones 7c, 7b and 7a of the abutment body, while the other roller loses contact with the ramp This complex movement of the jaw is of course accompanied by compression of the two springs 20, so that, from the moment when the lateral force exerted on the jaw ceases in the direction of the arrow 22, this jaw automatically returns to the neutral position of FIG. 3, under the effect of recall by the two springs 20.

It is obvious that the release rate of the stop is adjustable; it suffices to screw the nuts 19 more or less on the threaded rods 13, in order to increase or decrease the compression of the two springs 20.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this stop for ski binding which has been indicated above by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all of the variant embodiments and applications.
