Abstract

The machine is constructed of materials in readily available forms, typically comprising a lathe with an inverted channel section bed mounted on transverse spreader rails. Slide tracks are bolted to the bed together with the headstock substructure in square hollow section. The headstock is drilled to locate a spindle on bearings of the simple journal or cased roller variety, also locating the spindle drive motor on an adaptor. The bed is drilled to a grid pattern to permit the fixing of the headstock in alternative positions by sleeved bolts. A tail stock with a freely rotatable barrel may be provided, barrel translation being effected by a handwheel and a screw engaging nut.
