Abstract

The auger which can be used to bore holes in sandy soil near a river or lake so that water can be extracted by a suitable pump, can be used for camping. To save space, the auger consists of a handle which can be separated from the spindle (10) carrying the helical thread (11). The handle has a crosspiece (14) on top of a tube which can be fitted over the spindle, and a peg inserted through holes (12) through the tube and spindle, locking them together. When a hole has been bored as deep as possible, the tool can be removed, cleared of dirt and sand, then the tool lengthened by inserting the peg through holes higher up the spindle so that on reinsertion allows the hole to be made deeper.

Description

The present invention relates to a drilling auger. It relates more precisely to a small diameter auger, with a telescopic rod, particularly suitable for digging holes in friable, stony and sandy soils.

The auger according to the invention can be used for digging near the edge of the sea, a lake or a river, holes in which can be inserted a pump intended to draw water with which the soil is impregnated. In this regard, there will be mentioned by way of nonlimiting example the pump described in Italian patent application NO 67 85ts-A / 77, filed on April 18, 1977 and used in particular to draw water from soils of the aforementioned kind .

The auger according to the invention can advantageously be used in this case for digging the holes in which the pump must be inserted.

For this purpose, the auger has a very small diameter, a narrow propeller and a rod of very small section. Furthermore, in accordance with the invention, it is possible to telescopically extend and shorten the rod by fixing the part which carries the handle at various points of the part carrying the propeller.

It is obvious that this auger is particularly useful for campers who can simply and easily dig holes in the shores, whether the terrain is stony or sandy.

The invention therefore relates to a drilling auger characterized in that it is composed of two concentric rods sliding one on the other, carrying at one end, one a drilling propeller and the other a handle, l 'other end of each of these rods being pierced with holes which pass through it and which are intended to be used with each other by introducing a locking pin.

The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawing by way of non-limiting example and in which
Figures 1 and 2 are elevational views of the two elements which constitute the auger according to the invention; and
Figure 3 shows the auger of Figures 1 and 2 in the assembled state.

The auger is essentially composed of a rod 10 of small cross section which can be hollow, at one end of which is welded a propeller 11. The other end of the rod 10 is pierced with holes 12 which pass through it and the number and the spacing may vary, but which are advantageously equidistant.

Another rod 13 also includes near one end one or more holes 12 which pass through it and at the other end is secured a handle 14.

The auger made in this way works as follows:
At the start of drilling, the second hollow rod 13 can be completely threaded onto the rod 10 and immobilized relative to one another by inserting a pin 15 into the holes 12 of the two rods which have been aligned, this pin accommodating itself with a certain play in these holes.

We can then start drilling, that is to say digging the soil to a certain depth, then remove the auger with the fallen earth and start digging again to a greater depth.

When the depth increases, it is possible to withdraw the pin 15 from the holes 12 and thus remove the second rod 13 relative to the first 10 and then re-lock it by inserting the pin into a new pair of holes 12 brought into alignment.

It is thus possible to lengthen the auger, that is to say to increase the distance between the handle 14 and the propeller 11. It is possible to act in this way until the auger is extended to the maximum or until 'that we have reached the desired depth. The dimensions of the auger are naturally variable according to the needs, but, in the case of its use in sandy ground, it is advantageously used with rods 10 and 13 of small section, since in this case, it is not necessary make large holes; moreover, an auger of this kind is easily transportable and is therefore particularly suitable for campers who would use the aforementioned pump, which was the subject of patent application NO 67 854-A / 77 mentioned above.

For other uses, the auger may have other dimensions, while retaining the same characteristics.

It goes without saying that it is possible to make various modifications to the auger drill shown and described without departing from the scope of the invention.
