Abstract

The rear wheel and axle structure for an electric vehicle includes wheels (1) attached to respective half axles (3). The axles are attached via the suspension to the body of the vehicle. The floor of the vehicle drops below the level of the axle, so that on either side of a central tunnel (5) there are similar wells (6). The central tunnel provides some support for the inner ends of the half axles. The two wells provide a secure housing for the accumulators which provide the power to electric motors driving the vehicle. In view of their considerable weight the secure low position is a suitable location for the accumulators avoiding bringing the batteries near to the occupants of the vehicle.
