Abstract

In the mass production of motor vehicles the body shells (7) are moved by a conveyor between lines of robots (15) which perform the required operations. The body shells are mounted on supports (2) which are moved step by step between successive robots by a rack and pinion mechanism. When the body shells reach the end of the line they are removed from the supports. The supports are then transferred to one or the other of two parallel return conveyors (16,17) installed beneath the platform (20) which supports the body conveyor. The double return conveyor enables two different types of body shell to be handled in any order with the support of each type being returned by its respective special conveyor.

Description

Installation for transferring manufactured products, in particular motor vehicle body parts
The present invention, due to the collaboration of gentlemen
Bernard THIBÂULT and Ancré LE GOFF, relates to an installation for the transfer of manufactured products, in particular motor vehicle body parts, in particular for assembly lines automated by robots.

The generalization of the automation of automobile vehicle production lines by robots or programmable logic controllers requires a basic structure of these chains which, while being extremely rigid, provides optimum environmental clearance allowing maximum movement of the working arms of said robots.

In addition, the use of programmable automatons allows, grgoe b multiprogramming, to have successively and without interruption, at will, by these automata the same assembly operation on sets or sub-sets of different types of bodywork, by a simple selection of the evolution program for the work arm of these machines. It is therefore desirable to be able to selectively introduce on the transfer chain at least two distinct models of support assemblies each adapted to receive elements of different types of bodywork.

I1 is known to use on assembly lines of motor vehicles of bodywork elements transfer facilities composed of an upper line advancement of mounting fixtures of said bodywork elements and a lower line of return of empty support assemblies, forming a storage line on standby by accumulation of said support montages, and extending substantially below the upper advancement line. Up to now, these installations have not made it possible to easily select at will on the lower return and storage line by accumulation, the mounting systems according to the immediate desires or needs of successive assembly of different types of bodywork.
The object of the present invention is, in particular, to adapt this type of transfer in order to meet the aforementioned requirements.

d cet effet, l'installation de transfert de produits manufacturés, notamment d'éléments de carrosseries de véhicules automobiles, objet de la présente invention, se caractérise par le fait que la ligne de retour comporte deux voies parallèles séparées par une ligne médiane de supports centraux soutenant la ligne supérieure d'avancement, et extérieurement délimitées chacune par une structure latérale formant arc-boutant pour ladite ligne supérieure d'avancement, assurant ainsi une largeur d'assise et une rigidité d'ensemble compatibles avec l'assemblage par robots et le dégagement nécessaire aux débattements des bras de ces derniers. d for this purpose, the installation for transferring manufactured products, in particular motor vehicle body elements, object of the present invention, is characterized in that the return line comprises two parallel paths separated by a center line of supports central supporting the upper line of advancement, and externally each delimited by a lateral structure forming a flying buttress for said upper line of advancement, thus ensuring a seat width and overall rigidity compatible with assembly by robots and the necessary clearance for the deflections of the arms of the latter.

According to other advantageous characteristics of the invention, each of the parallel return channels is distinctly supplied with specific support assemblies intended to receive elements of different types of bodywork, and the selective supply of each of the parallel return channels and the upper line of advancement in specific support assemblies is ensured by means of lateral translators of known type controlled by selective reference means associated with the different types of bodywork elements present at the inlet and outlet of the installation .

of Figure 1 - Figure 3 is a partial view on a larger scale of
the installation of Figure 1; and, - Figure 4 is a cross section of Figure 3.

As it appears on the drawing, in particular in FIGS. 1 and 2, the transfer installation essentially consists of an upper line 1 of step-by-step advancement for the mounting-supports 2, formed in the eas present by carriages, and a lower line 3, X drive by rollers controlled by motor-brakes of known type of return of the mountings 2 empty supports, forming storage line by accumulation, the supply of support assemblies 2 of each of these lines from the other taking place at the entrance and exit of the chain in a conventional manner by lifting table 4.

As shown in the drawing, in particular in FIGS. 3 and 4, the support assemblies 2, provided with appropriate means 5 6 B fluid control for centering and locking the bodywork elements 7, are driven in translation not-a. not on the upper line 1 of advancement by a pinion system 8 rack 9 animating with an alternating horizontal back and forth movement a transfer bar 10 sliding in guide cases 11 X rollers, and provided with jaws 12, step-by-step drive of the support assemblies 2, vertically retractable by jacks 13 with fluid control to allow the return movement of the transfer bar 10.

The upper advancement line 1 also comprises lateral means 14, also with fluid control, of indexing and locking of the support assemblies 2 in front of the various implantation and work stations of the robots 15.

In accordance with the subject of the invention, the return line 3 of the empty support assemblies 2 consists of two parallel tracks 16, 17, separated by a center line of central supports 18, constituted by pillars aligned in the axis longitudinal of the upper line 1 of advancement, to support said upper line 1 of advancement, the two parallel tracks 16, 17 each being externally delimited by a lateral structure, constituted by external alignments of pillars 19 parallel to the line median of central supports 18, and of horizontal crosspieces 20 resting in their center on the central supports 18 and by their ends on the external pillars 19, said lateral structure forming a flying buttress for the upper line 1 of advancement, thus ensuring a width seat and overall rigidity of the transfer compatible with assembly by robots 15 and the clearance necessary for optimal travel of the working arms of the latter
Each of the parallel return channels 16, 17 is distinctly supplied with support assemblies 2 provided with specific centering and locking means 5, 6 intended to receive elements of different types of bodywork 70
For this purpose, the bottom line 3 of return of the empty support mountings 2 comprises at each of its ends, a lateral translator of known type, not shown in the drawing, and incorporated in the immediate vicinity of the lifting tables 4 at the locations designated by the references 21, 22 in Figures 1 and 2.

The lateral translator located at the inlet 2t of the lower return line 3 is used to distribute the support mounting models 2 on one or the other of the storage return channels 16, 17 by accumulation, according to the elements of types of bodies that they are intended to receive, and the lateral translator located at outlet 22 makes it possible to select, as necessary, the mounting-support model 2 B supplied on the upper advancement line 1. The lateral displacements of these translators can very advantageously be controlled by optical or mechanical selective reference means, not shown in the drawing, associated with the different types of bodywork elements appearing at the inlet and outlet of the installation, and also participating in the selection of the evolution of the working arms 15a of the robots 15. It therefore proves easy to be able to selectively introduce two distinct models of support assemblies 2 each adapted to the transfer channel to receive elements of different types of bodies.

It is clear that the present installation for the transfer of manufactured products, in particular body parts, is in no way limited to the embodiment described above but that it encompasses all the modifications and variants resulting from the same basic principle.
