Abstract

The projectile comprises a hollow body surrounded at the front by a tapering ring, with an axial hole closed at the rear by a threaded plug. An inner projectile is carried in the hollow casing formed of a body and end. The inner projectile includes a main explosive charge and detonator. A fuse ensures that the projectile is exploded on contact with the target. In the chamber at the rear of the outer casing is a further charge of powder which may be fired by a fuse controlled by a target proximity detector. When the main body of the projectile gets near its tarqet, the charge is fired to give the inner projectile additional speed, thus ensuring penetration of the target.
