Abstract

The water pro-heater consists of a tank (1) of water heated by the hot refrigerant gas from the compressor of a refrigeration installation. A coil (3) carrying the water to be heated is submerged in the tank. Water flows into the coil at the lower end and out at the top. The coil is in two sections with a branch (10) between the two, allowing water to be drawn off under the control of an automatic valve (12). To increase the rate of heat exchange between the hot refrigerant gas and the water in the coil, a double tube coil is used for the first half of the coil. Insulation of the outer tube protects the cooling water against being heated by the water in the tank.
