The self-elevating platform legs must be equipped with a double-effect elevator because the platform and the legs are alternately fixed part and movable part, namely platform fixed part when the latter is towed, and the legs are raised and platform mobile part when the latter is lifted above the water to perform work. Like most double effect elevators used on self-lifting platforms, the object of the present invention consists for a part of racks which are integral with the legs of the platform and for the other part of gables, reducers primary and drive motors with brakes which are connected to the actual platform. The main characteristic of the elevator, object of the present invention, is that each pinion is mounted in a pinion carrier to which primary reducers are included or attached, the pinion carrier being connected to the platform or the like by an articulated strut whose force line is substantially situated in the plane perpendicular to the axis of the pinion passing through the middle of the teeth, this strut, substantially parallel to the rack, is connected on the one hand to the pinion carrier by an axis substantially located in the median plane of the teeth perpendicular to the axis of the pinion and on the other hand has u floor of the platform by a ball joint, two pinion holders are located face to face and each mesh with a rack fixed to the lug, the two pinion holders are connected together by tie rods articulated at each of their ends, these tie rods finding substantially in the same plane as the plane common to the axes of the pinions. Each pinion carrier is fitted with at least one primary reduction gear with angle gear, the drive shafts of these primary reduction gears being located opposite each other and sufficiently distant from the lug to be attacked each by a coupling, of cardan type, these two couplings being respectively connected to the planet gears of a differential located in a reducer with motor and brake which simultaneously attacks, via the differential, the primary reducers with angle transmission of each of the two pinion carriers. To reduce the diameter of the primary reducers with gearbox angle return as well as to balance the masses on each side of the pinions, it is possible to have a primary gearbox with angle return on each side of each pinion, a motor, brake, reducer assembly and differential being located on each side of the median plane of the teeth perpendicular to the axis of the pinions. In cases where it is necessary to attack each of the racks of the leg by two or more pinions, sets as described above can be superimposed, the lower ball joint of the struts of the upper pinions is then connected to the upper part of the pinion holder located below. tie rods which connect two pinion holders located face to face, thus an increase in center distance between the pinions can be obtained and a stop of the motors can be automatically caused as soon as this increase in center distance exceeds a predetermined value. Figures I and II attached hereto represent a non-limiting illustration of a double-effect elevator for self-elevating platform leg according to the invention. Figure I is a top view, Figure II is a side view with partial section by the median plane of the teeth perpendicular to the axis of the pinions. 1 is the floor of the platform, 2 is the passage which serves as a guide for the leg 3 in the platform, 4 and 5 are the racks, 6 and 7 are the pinions which mesh with. 8, 9, 10 and 11 are rollers coaxial with the pinions which limit the lateral displacements of the pinions 6 and 7 relative to the teeth of the racks 4 and 5; 12 and 13 are the pinion carriers which are connected to the struts 14 and 15 by the hinge pins 16 and 17, these struts being connected to the floor 1 of the platform by the axes of the ball joints 18 and 19. primary reducers with bevel gear 20, 21 and 22, 23 are respectively integral with the pinion holders 12 and 13, their drive shafts being connected by the universal joints 24, 25 and 26, 27 respectively to the output shafts of the engine assemblies, brake, reducer and differential 28 and 29; the tie rods 30 and 31 located in the plane common to the axes of the pinions 5 and 6 connect the housings of the primary reduction gears 19, 21 and 20, 22 respectively, maintaining a substantially constant center distance between the pinions 6 and 7; for the cases where the distance between the pinions 6 and 7 should be increased by constraint of the teeth of the pinions 6 and 7 in the teeth of the racks 4 and 5, the limited stroke balances 32 and 33 allow to increase without danger the center distance of pinions 6 and 7 this using ball joints 34, 35 and 37, 38 as well as prestressed dynamometric shock absorbers 36 and 39; safety contactors 40 and 41 allowing the motors to be stopped and the brakes to be dropped if this increase in center distance exceeds a predetermined value. In the case of a four-pinion drive, the pinions 42 and 43 are mounted and controlled by sets similar to those of the pinions 6 and 7, only the ball joints of the struts 46 and 47 are connected to the pinion holders 12 and 13 at 44, 45 instead of being connected to the floor 1 of the platform, in this In this case, it is obvious that the pinion carrier assemblies 12 and 13 and the struts 14 and 15 must be dimensioned accordingly.
It is easy to see that, with such a double-effect elevator, the legs can oscillate by the value of their guide play in their passage through the platform on the one hand without preventing the good bearing capacity of the teeth of the pinions on the teeth of the racks and on the other hand without overloading the pinions of a rack with respect to the gears of the other rack, the articulations of the struts as well as the differential effects in the control reducers ensure the desired results.
