Abstract

The dental handpiece has a bit at the distal end which is in communication with a tube connected to a fluid supply. This produces a jet of irrigating liq. whose axis is parallel to that of the drill bit. The jet of liq. removes tooth fragments as they are formed during the drilling operation. In order to bring the axis of the jet as near as possible to that of the drilling bit, part of the bearing in which the bit is mounted may be removed. The supply of liq. is controlled to operate simultaneously with the rotation of the bit.
