Abstract

The electrical male connector has one or more brass contact pins (2) moulded into a block (1) of rigid or semi-rigid insulating material such as rubber or plastic. The pins are cylindrical and at one end have respective holes in which connector cables are clamped by screws (4) coaxial with the pins. Rotation of the screws can cause rotation of the oins and this is prevented by provision of one or more transverse bores (6) in the pins into which the block material penetrates during moulding. Alternatively, blind bores interconnected by a surface acid groove may be provided to secure the pins against axial and turning movements. The former may be restricted in addition by block collars moulded about reduced dia. portions of the pins projecting from the block.

Description

The present invention relates to male sockets made of flexible, semi-rigid or rigid material, such as rubber, plastic, molded on the metal pins ensuring plugging with the sockets of the female sockets.

The male sockets as they are currently made are made up of two parts, on the one hand a pin block comprising on its rear face a partition separating the connection points and on the other hand a protective cap, which two parts are assembled by fitting with locking in the assembled position. The pin holder block is produced by molding with the incorporation of the two brass pins in the mold: the anchoring means hitherto used consists of a groove obtained by turning each pin, which groove is generally furnished with striations or reliefs obtained by knurling. These anchors prove to be insufficient to prevent rotation of the spindle when the screw connecting the conductive wires is blocked, which screw is arranged co-axially with the spindle. This rotation has the effect of deteriorating the covering of the material used, required over a certain length of the pins, from their implantation in the pin holder block, this requirement having the aim of avoiding any accident of electrocution in the case where the male plug is not sufficiently inserted into the female plug .

The implementation method according to the invention makes it possible to avoid this drawback. I1 makes it possible to obtain, at the time of molding of the male socket, comprising the conductive pins in situ, a positive connection by obstacle of the said pins with the material constituting the body of the pin holder block, ensuring total immobilization in rotation and in translation of said pins when tightening the connection kis and when coupling or uncoupling the male and female sockets.

The process which is the subject of the invention consists in carrying out machining operations on brass conductive pins with the aim of constituting anchors capable of resisting the tightening torque exerted on the connection screw and transmitted to the entire spindle. , as well as the pushing or pulling exerted on each spindle at the time of fitting or removing the socket. These machining operations can be either a through drilling carried out perpendicular to the axis of the spindle, or the drilling of two juxtaposed blind holes also executed perpendicular to the axis of the spindle, which blind holes communicate or not communicate with each other by a groove executed according to a generatrix of the spindle and whose bottom corresponds to the diameter of the bottom of the groove made on the protruding part of the spindle and serving as an anchor for the insulating material constituting the pin-holder block, the said groove opening into this groove.

The accompanying drawings illustrate, by way of example, two embodiments of male plugs by application of the method according to the present invention. These represent - in Figure 1, a sectional view of a plug made according to the prior art, - in Figure 2, a sectional view of a plug according to the invention in which the anchoring is made by means of a through hole, - in Figure 3, a pin according to the variant, object of Figure 2, sectional view, - in Figure 4, a sectional view of a plug according to the invention in which the anchoring is carried out by means of two blind holes joined together and at the groove fitted to each spindle by means of a longitudinal groove, - in FIG. 5, a spindle according to the variant object of FIG. 4 seen in section.

As shown in Figure 1, the male sockets made so far included, incorporated in the block 1 of flexible material, such as rubber for example, two pins 2 of brass whose end used for plugging was separated of the end used for connection by a cylindrical groove 3 which must ensure, when molding the socket, that the block and the pins are immobilized in rotation and in translation by the permanent contact pressures due to the elasticity of the material constituting the block . This connection proved to be insufficient to prevent rotation of the pins when tightening the connection screws 4 and this despite the improvement brought by the presence of striations or reliefs executed on the groove by knurling: only the connection in translation ensured by the shoulders limiting the throat 3.

One of the solutions proposed by the invention is illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3. In addition to the turning 5 allowing an overlap of the insulating material, constituting the block, on the implantation of the pins, the latter comprise a radial bore 6 into which the material penetrates the when the block is molded, thus achieving a sort of transverse keying opposing the rotation of the spindle during the tightening operation of the connection screws 4 on the wires as well as the translation of the spindle at the time of the inserting the male plug into the female socket, or when removing it.

Another solution according to the invention and illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5 consists in carrying out on each spindle, in addition to the turning 5, two blind radial holes 7 as well as a groove 8 arranged according to a generator of the spindle, which groove connecting the two blind holes at a depth corresponding to the diameter of the low-cut part 5. Such an arrangement achieves both a transverse keying through the two orifices 7 and a longitudinal keying thanks to the groove 8, preventing any rotation and translation of the pins in the body of block 1.

The invention is in no way limited to the embodiment of its various specially described parts, but it admits all possible variants, provided that these are not in contradiction with the subject of each of the claims appended to this description . Thus each spindle can include one or more blind or through-hole radial bores, connected or not by one or more grooves executed according to a generatrix of the spindle.

The method according to the invention can be applied to the manufacture of all male electrical sockets, as well as of all devices comprising the implantation of metal pins in a flexible, semi-rigid or rigid molded material.
