Description

The present invention relates to an improvement made to machines intended for stacking products in plates, sheets, or the like, such as for example folded or flat boxes at the outlet of a machine for shaping corrugated boxes.

A conventional plate stacking device generally comprises a conveyor belt for supplying the plates, transferring the plates one by one onto a lifting table, or stacking table, which descends, relative to the downstream end of the conveyor, at the as the battery builds up. The lifting table is generally equipped with rollers, the first plate normally comes to deposit and slide on the generator of these rollers to come to stop on the front stop and thus constitute the beginning of the stack.

In the case where small plates have to be stacked, it may happen that the first plate, falling "down" on the roller table, comes to get caught in said rollers and consequently prevent the desired stacking. Furthermore, when stacking is carried out on a shipping pallet previously placed on the roller table, it may happen that the front of the first plate abuts on one of the transverse boards constituting the upper floor of the pallet, and stop there, which again prevents stacking of the following plates.

The plate stacking machine according to the invention does not have the aforementioned drawbacks of the devices known hitherto and therefore makes it possible in all cases to ensure correct deposition of the first sheet on the stacking table.

The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description of an exemplary embodiment applied to a machine for stacking folded boxes at the outlet of a machine for shaping corrugated boxes, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which - FIG. 1 schematically represents the device of the invention,
in the position for starting the stacking operation of the first plate - Figure 2 schematically shows the device of Figure 1
with the first plate arriving at its point of maximum advance; - Figure 3 schematically shows the vertical lacing phase
from the front end of the first plate.

In FIG. 1, the reference 1 designates the plate conveyor constituted, in a conventional manner by a series of endless belts 2 winding around two end rollers 3 and 4, one of them, for example the upstream roller 3 is motor. In a manner known per se, the plates are transported "in tiles" on the conveyor 1, that is to say by partially overlapping, the first plate 5 being raised on its arrival at the downstream end of the conveyor by an arm articulated 6, usually called "skip".

The stacker is intended to pour one by one the plates on a shipping pallet 7, itself placed on a conventional lifting table 8, furnished with discharge rollers 9. The machine is provided, in a manner known per se, a device not shown allowing the descent of the table e as and when stacking, and a front stop 10, adjustable in position depending on the format of the plates to be stacked.

In accordance with the invention, and in order to prevent the first plate 5 from coming up against one of the crosspieces 11 constituting the rudimentary floor of the pallet 7, the machine is provided with a carriage 12, carrying two hooks 19, one of each side, and being able to slide longitudinally on a rail 13 forming part of the fixed frame 14 of the stacking machine. Figure 1 shows the carriage 12 in its extreme upstream position, or it is stopped by means of a stop 18 and a return coil spring 15 with large stroke and low force of other return art attached d on the one hand to the carriage 12 and has a rear attachment 16 forming part of the chassis 14. In a conventional manner, moreover, a photoelectric cell 17 makes it possible to control the lowering of the skip 6 when the first box 5 is sufficiently advanced.

The skip 6 being lowered, the front of the body 5 is then supported by the two hooks 19 and, while the assembly continues to advance, the carriage 12 moves to the left, still supporting the front of the body 5, up to the extreme position thereof, appearing in FIG. 2, or the rear part of the box 5, which has come close to the point of discharge of the conveyor 1, is about to fall soon on the lifting table 8.

It is then necessary to ensure the release of the two hooks 19, and consequently the vertical release of the front edge of the plate 5.

For this, as can be seen in FIG. 3, the passage of the carriage 12 at the height of the front stop actuates a limit switch 20 which controls the sending of compressed air into a jack 21 fixed to the frame 14 of the installation by conventional means not shown. The rod of the jack 21 therefore comes out as indicated by the arrow and comes to push, by its end roller 22, on an inclined ramp 23 fixed on the side of the carriage 12, which gives a horizontal component making the carriage advance by a length sufficient for the hooks 19 to release the front of the box 5, as indicated by dotted lines in the drawing. The jack 21 remains supplied, and consequently the hooks 19 remain in their extreme downstream position, until all the sheets of the series to be stacked have passed over the conveyor 1. When the last sheet has passed, the absence of cardboard is detected by the photoelectric cell 17. The latter then emits an electrical signal controlling on the one hand the lifting of the skip 6 and on the other hand the stopping of the supply of compressed air to the jack 21, which causes the withdrawal of its rod and consequently the return of the carriage 12 to its extreme upstream position of FIG. 1 against the stop 18. After evacuation of the stack formed on the table 8, the machine of the invention is ready for the treatment of a new series of plates.

The invention finds its most advantageous use for the corrugated board industry.
