Abstract

Mudguards for motor vehicles, esp. those made of rigid polyurethane foam, have at the end on the downstream side a hollow groove of cylindrical shape. A mud flap which has along the top a cylindrical bead can thus be pushed into the groove. Cross bores on the groove can be used for securing bolts which intersect the bead tangentially and prevent it from slipping out. This creates a simple and low-cost fixture for the mud flaps on mudguards of motor vehicles.

Description

Plastic vehicle mudguard.

 The subject of the invention is a plastic mudguard, preferably made of hard polyurethane foam, for vehicles.

 I1 is frequent that we have to have a splash guard, at least on a transverse edge of a vehicle mudguard. Until now, such anti-projection flaps have been fixed by fixing them with screws on the mudguards by their upper edge, preferably crimped in a metallic element. This method of attachment results in considerable assembly expenditure as well as a relatively expensive production of the anti-projection flaps themselves. Indeed, these elements most often made of rubber must be provided with a sheet metal element on their fixing edge.

 The object of the present invention is to avoid the drawbacks encountered when fixing the spray flaps on the mud flaps and to create a mud flap on which a spray flap can be fixed in a simple and economical manner.

 To this end, the invention relates to a mudguard of the above type, characterized in that it has, at least on one lateral edge, a profiled retaining groove into which a splash guard provided with a profiled bead can be introduced. adapted to the profile of the groove.

 The advantages of a mudguard produced in accordance with the invention result from the fact that the expense of mounting the anti-projection flaps is considerably reduced because it is no longer necessary to fix these flaps by screws. Another advantage consists in that the anti-projection flaps can themselves be produced in the form of homogeneous rubber parts, these parts only having to present a thickened bead-shaped part at their upper part. The realization of the profiled retaining groove on the mudguard involves practically no additional expense because, in the case of plastic mudguards, in particular mudguards made of hard polyurethane foam, such a groove profile can be easily machined in the mudguard mold.

 According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the profiled retaining groove has transverse holes intended to receive fixing dowels for the anti-projection flaps. The transverse holes can extend tangentially to the profiled groove, so that there is indeed a security against the exit by sliding of the anti-rejection flaps, these flaps can however pivot in the profiled groove by their bead. The profile of the groove is preferably cylindrical.

In the drawings, the mudguard is designated by 1.
