Abstract

Hollow dishes involving deep drawn and/or sharp changes of form and made using solid sheet materials (paper/cardboard/metal/plastic) are made using a laminate faced with the solid material enclosing a core of relatively soft, compressible material, i.e. a foam or a bulky fibrous or agglomerate material. The soft core accommodates contour differentials between the inner and outer surfaces of the formed shape, so that both surfaces can be formed without local splitting or creasing on the outside/inside of bends respectively.

Description

It is known to stamp compact materials, for example paper, cardboard, plastic or metal.
But when one seeks to achieve deep or tight stamping on these materials, one encounters difficulties such that it is impossible to obtain a stamped object free from defects.

An accumulation of material occurs in the curved parts because it is not compressible. This accumulation of material can lead to the formation of folds on the external surface of the object; if the latter consists, for example, of a obturation cover, these folds are the cause of leaks,
There is, moreover, a rolling of the material which causes the formation of burrs at the base of the stamped object. Finally, in the case of a fibrous material, a stamping requiring a fairly tight bending angle causes fiber breaks.

The present invention relates to an improvement made to deep or tight stamping of an object thanks to which it is possible to obtain a stamped object having no defect.

According to the invention, the object is produced by stamping a composite material consisting of two compact walls joined together by a soft mass,
During deep and even deep drawing, the soft mass absorbs variations in length and partially crushes; it also allows the two compact walls to slide relative to each other. There is thus neither formation of folds, nor breaking of fibers. Externally, the stamped object has practically the same appearance as if it were produced from a plate of compact material.

The compact walls can, for example, be made of paper, cardboard, plastic, metal or wood. The soft material can, for example, consist of a foam, cellular or fluted fibers or even an agglomerated material,
Two embodiments have been described below, by way of nonlimiting example, of stamped objects produced in accordance with the invention with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of a first stamped object.

Figure 2 is a sectional view of a second stamped object
As shown in Figure 1, the object is a bil don formed by deep drawing of a composite plate consisting of two compact walls 1a and 1b separated from each other by a soft material 2.

Figure 2 shows a cover cap with a central bowl which is normally very difficult to achieve by and -butting, since it has curved walls of small radius and an inversion of the material over 1800. Again, this cover is formed by stamping a composite plate formed by two compact walls 3a and 3b connected to each other by a soft material 4.

It goes without saying that the present invention should not be considered as limited to the embodiments described and shown, but on the contrary covers all variants thereof.
