Abstract

The coupling mechanism is suitable for video disc drives using a single drive motor, and provides two drives, one being detachable from the drive motor. The drive motor(s) is coupled to a driving shaft (3) which terminates in a layer dia. cylinder (1) with several pins (8) emerging from its face. Springs (12) force the pins outwards till they are stopped by a collar (14) on the pins. A second cylinder (2) is similarly mounted on a driven shaft (4) which is in line with the driving shaft, and has slots (5) cut in its end face to accept the pins (8) when a fork (16) moves the driven shaft (4) up against the driving shaft end. The driven shaft (4) has a gear (6) on it, and the driving shaft (3) has a worm cut on it, to provide the two drives.
