Abstract

Used to line chimney flues etc., the system utilises stacked concentric box section units (1,2) in terra cotta, each unit being of a double walled (11,12) cavity construction with cross walls (27,28). The stack may incorporate two concentric columns of units with an intervening cavity, the inner units (2) having a circular bore (32) and a square barrel, and the outer units having square profiles in both respects. The inner unit barrels and the outer unit bores may have rounded corners (14) formed by radii centred on the stack axis (0), and the inter-unit cavity may reduce at the corners. Cross walls may be radial or may incline (27,28) to radii to obtain alternately inverted trapezoidal section voids. At corners, two walls (20,21) straddling a diagonal (24) may be connected by a oeroendicular wall (25).
