Abstract

Process for the prodn. of crystallisation nuclei for seeding a soln. to be crystallised in a continuous crystalliser is claimed. A suspension of crystals in the soln. is centrifuged and crystals above a predetermined size are sepd., crushed and recycled into the centrifuge. The suspension fed into the centrifuge represents a fraction of the prod. delivered by the crystalliser. This fraction is mixed with the sepd., oversize, crushed crystals prior to recycling. The centrifuge drainings contg. the crystals below the predetermined size of sepn. are injected as seeding magma into the crystalliser. The viscosity of the suspension being centrifuged is pref. adjusted by additions of a sugar soln. The seeding magma is predp. without running it through a second centrifuge. This means that the plant installation is cheaper to purchase, install and maintain, as well as being simpler to operate.
