Abstract

An addn. clamping motion is formed between a plate hinged to the underside of the upper conveyor assembly, and the upper surface of the main conveyor, in a machine for folding transversely to the line of motion, long items of linen. The linen is guided from the original plane to a steeply upwards inclined surface where it can be clamped, whilst the remainder of the length continues in a loop along the bottom level. Dependently upon the loop having reached a predetermined length and the upper clamp being released, the under clamping plate brings the folds of the loop into frictional contact with each other. Relative displacement of the folds is prevented since the linen is drawn from the upper surface much more easily, and a neat fold is presented to the following machine so that the shortcomings of similar plant are corrected.
