Abstract

The cable railway is designed to accelerate and decelerate individual cars without changing the speed of the remaining cars. Between stations the cars (B) are attached to an endless cable (5) which is driven at a constant high speed. Each car is connected to the ones ahead and behind by cables (8) wound on drums. As each car approaches the station, it is released from the cable (5) and then winds up or pays out the cable (8) as it slows down so that no undue force is exerted on the cable (8).
