Abstract

Each contact plate is provided with cooling channels for use in high electric current circuits for metallurgical treatment. The foot of the plate is in two parts. The channel is defined between them overcoming the problems associated with providing such a channel in one piece plates. The channel which may be comparatively complex compared to that in a one piece plate is formed in the lower surface of the upper of the two parts. This also carries the contact pillar and coolant, normally water, entry and exit points and the contact area on its upper surface. The lower and thinner of the two parts has a plain surface and closes off the open side of the channel and is soldered to the upper. Bolts between the two ensure correct location and prevent accidental separation.
