Abstract

L'invention concerne la transmission d'une information par des modulations de lumière transmises le long d'une fibre optique. Au moyen d'une source 2 indépendante de l'émetteur 1 de l'information on émet périodiquement des signaux de vérification de la qualité de la fibre optique 4. Un détecteur 6 reçoit la lumière de ces signaux que les imperfections de la fibre optique renvoient par rétrodiffusion. La comparaison des caractéristiques de ces signaux rétrodiffusés avec celles qui ont été enregistrées à la mise en service permet de détecter les dégradations éventuelles de la fibre optique et leurs localisations. Ce système qui permet d'assurer une surveillance continuelle de l'état de la fibre optique, est applicable aux industries de la téléphonie, de la télévision, de la mesure et de l'automatisme.
