Abstract

Continuous starch hydrolysis is carried out by introducing alpha-amylase (I) and amyloglucosidase (II) into a starch slurry in a reaction vessel at a reaction temp. of 30-100 degrees C (pref. 50-60 degrees C), continuously passing the reaction mixt. under pressure through an ultrafiltration zone, where glucose syrup is sepd. and other materials are returned to the reaction vessel, and maintaining a constant amt. of reaction mixt. in the reaction vessel by adding corresp. amts. of starch slurry. Process uses smaller amts. of (I) and (II) and gives shorter reaction times than conventional batch processes.
