Abstract

The town plan or railway map includes a visual display and a keyboard input for controlling the displayed information. The keyboard is used for entering a digital code of several characters representing the name of a particular destination on the plan. The recommended route is illuminated by lines on the plan., or by showing the stations through which the user must travel. At the same time, similar or complementary information is printed out on a ticket. The number of destinations which may be displayed is thus not limited by the number of available keys, but is practically unlimited. A programmable memory is used and is divided into several zones, each zone storing the possible routes to a particular destination. The memory may be readily altered to take account of new developments on the plan.
