Abstract
A hi-fidelity loudspeaker comprises a honeycomb structure (1) covered on one side by a diaphragm (2) in the form of a thin metal or synthetic or paper sheet. The honeycomb structure is suspended at its outer edges from a rigid housing (5) with a respective magnet (4) supported on the housing in each cell of the structure. Each magnet is spaced from the structure by a suitable air gap. The structure itself may be of metal or have a current conductor (3) formed on the cell edges on the structure side opposite the diaphragm. The conductor may be compressed carbon or a polymer conductor or metal film and is connected through wires (7) to the current supply. When excitation current is applied to the conductor, the structure and thus the diaphragm is displaced accordingly. A uniform force is exerted on the diaphragm, the reactive impedance of the conductor is negligible and thermal dissipation through the structure is enhanced.
