Abstract

The gathering unit is intended as an add-on unit for a maize chopper to catch, cut-off and further transport maize stalks standing in rows. It comprises a feed duct (34) for each row, formed by a partition (4) and an endless chain or belt (3) with projections (10) to carry the cut stalks along. The chain runs around wheels arranged at the forward intake end and at the rearward end of the duct. Near the forward wheel (5) a disc with gripper teeth (62) rotates with, and radially projects beyond, that wheel whilst the duct opening converges (13) to catch the stalks. An inclined (8') cutter (8) may be arranged behind the intake (13).
