Abstract

Flexible cord tampon is for haemostasis of a passage left in the leg of a patient by extn. of a varicose, saphenous vein. Cord comprises a central core of grass cloth, i.e. fibres of plants such as jute or hemp. Core is enclosed in a porous, tubular sleeve made of plastic thread in knitted construction. Core is highly absorbent and undergoes slight volumetric shrinkage as it takes up moisture. This makes it much easier and less harmful to remove than cotton tampons which swell when wet. Clean, easy extn. is improved by the plastic sleeve from which threads do not become detached.
