Abstract

The infrared heater contains an electrical resistance element which is heated to a high temp. for optimum radiation emission. A sheet of silica spaced apart from the element provides protection and diffuses the radiation. This sheet attains a much lower temp. than if it surrounded the element. A heater assembly comprises an enclosure (10) which contains a heating resistance (11) supported by a rod (12) on which it is wound in a helix. The enclosure acts as a reflector to reflect the radiation end through a sheet of silica (13) in the form of a tissue with silica fibres. The fibres are interleaved on a wire supporting frame. The sheet is clamped at the rim (18) of the enclosure by a frae (19) retained in position by clips (20).
