Abstract

The electrical conductor includes an inner sleeve (3) and an outer sleeve (2). Between the two coaxial sleeves is a braid of carbon fibres (1). Alternatively the sleeves are not coaxial, but the inner sleeve lies to one side of the fibres against the inner wall of the outer sleeve. The inner conducting sleeve helps to ensure that the electrical path is maintained even if the carbon fibres become fractured. The passage through the middle of the conductor enables a stiffening wire (5) to be inserted to give the conductor increased rigidity when it is being fitted. In possible arrangements of the conductor, blood is allowed to pass through between the carbon fibres, making the end connection of the conductor through holes in the outer sleeve.
