Abstract

Jets of gas at low pressure but high velocity are directed onto the prod. being cooled; and conical jets of liq. are formed in the streams of gas so the particles of liq. are distributed in all the vol. of the gas to form a mist sprayed onto the prod. being cooled. The gas into which the liq. is injected is pref. below a pressure of 15000 newtons/m2, esp. at 2000-12000 N/m2; a max. 0.25 kg lig. is pref. used per 1 Nm3 gas. The pref. gas is air and the pref. liq. is water; and the pref. appts. consists of a row of tubes or boxes located on each side of the prod. The boxes or tubes contain air outlet holes in which water spraying nozzles are located. Used to obtain a high rate of heat transfer between the coolant and the metals, which are esp. sheet or strip.
