Abstract

The machine tool station uses a sliding table which accepts worpieces from two or more laterally offset positions at definite intervals. The workpieces are mounted on pallets (21) and are subjected to reciprocal linear movements normal to that of the lide to mount the table or vice versa, being locked onto the table by purely mechanical means. A locking plate (22) may be permanently located on the table, using inset 'T' section rails (41) with rollers (42) which enter matching grooves (37) and guide the pallet into position. The inset rail portions may be traversed by ball (49) and socket jointed levers (48) with spring (58) piston (63) recoil. Once the pallet (21) is in position on the locking plate (22) a cammed (53) shaft (54) may be rotated, causing the rails (41) to drop and lock the assembly (21, 22). A retractable drive shaft with a claw clutch may be used to rotate the cam shaft (54).
