Abstract

Elements for a direct and/or indirect heat exchange between fluids, esp. for use in air cooled towers for the cooling of water, consists of extruded plastic twin plates, separated by webs to form thin-walled rectangular channels. On the outside, halfway between the webs and parallel to them, each element carries a rectangular rib which breaks up the laminer flow of one of the fluids along the outer wall and produces turbulent vortices. Several of these elements are grouped together and are joined at an open face end to a common fluid header. Distance blocks separate one row of such elements from the next. The pref. material for the elements is extruded PVC. Such elements are simple to produce at low cost and can be assembled to the required configuration for cooling towers.
