Abstract

The demountable pipe connector effects a sealed co-axial butt joint, inc. annular compression seals (13) and utilises a coupling sleeve (1) which is secured by nut (5) generated radial contraction. The sleeve is symmetrical about the pipe axis and the mid-point radial plane having a circular bore with two grooves (12) for the seals (13), having a central barrel length (3) of e.g. hexagonal section, and having two conically tapered terminal barrel lengths (7). The latter lengths are threaded (8) externally, have an axial slot (9) which opens out at the free end, and each receive a nut (5) with a reciprocally tapered and threaded bore. Once the joint is assembled the two nuts (5) are wound on, causing the tapered ends (7) to contract radially and grip the pipe ends (2). Nut and coupling coincities may equate to 10 deg. and 12 deg. respectively, the threads being of a triangular section.
