Abstract

A process for the prodn. of heat at a temp. A from heat available at temps. B and C, A being above B and C, comprises absorption of a gaseous fraction of a working fluid at press. P in a liq. solvent phase, giving up heat at temp. A. The working fluid is then sepd. into two fractions of different compsns. by addn. of heat in a boiler at temp. B and condensn. of the more volatile fraction in a condenser at temp. C. This sepn. is carried out at a press. P' P. The liq. recovered from the condenser is brought to a press. P" > P by a pump, then evaporated by addn. of heat at temp. B to constitute the gaseous fraction in the absorption stage. The less volatile liq. withdrawn from the boiler is brought to a press. P"' > P to act as the solvent in the absorption stage. The process allows saving of energy by using sources of heat normally rejected as being at too low a temp. to be utilised, and allows the economic use of geothermal layers the temp. of which is lower than temps. usually used.
