Abstract
A mica capacitor is formed by a number of rectangular mica plates (6) stacked and held together by two copper or brass bands (1, 2) bent out of sheet metal and wrapped around the plates (6). Each band (1, 2) serves as a terminal and has a respective wire (3, 4) soldered theeto, the lower band (2) mounting an insulating strip (6) preventing electrical contact between the band (2) and the upper band terminal wire (3). Each mica plate (6) is metallised along its shorter edge region (7, 8) on both sides, the shorter end edge also being metallised to connect electrically the adjacent metallised regions. The metallised end regions extend into the centre of the plate on opposite sides, cooperating to form a capacitance. The plates are stacked "back-to-back" with blank end plates (10) and encased in insulating material. Capacitors of 1% tolerance in a range 2 to 4200 picofarads may be produced.
