Abstract

The rotary pump has a cylindrical housing with two rotating pistons (2, 3) mounted on co-axial shafts (5). The pistons are in the shape of circular sections and are driven by a mechanism which causes them to rotate with a continuously fluctuating speed such that when one is rotating at maximum speed the other is rotating at minimum speed and vice-versa. This has the effect that as the pistons rotate the space (24) between the pistons increases and draws in fluid through the inlet (13) whilst the diametrically opposite space (25) is compressed and expels the fluid through the outlet (15).
