Abstract

A castable and weldable austenitic manganese steel has the compsn. (by wt.) up to 0.9 (pref. >=0.75)% C. up to 1% Si, up to 15 (pref. >=12.5)% Mn, 1.0-1.8% Mo, balance Fe and impurities. Used esp. for railway points. The steel has lower compositional limits for C, Mn and Mo than the steel of the parent patent without change in properties.
