Abstract

Surface protection composite comprises flexible support coated with a thermoplastic, the hot adhesion of which is modified by incorporation of an additive. Pref. support is paper, cardboard, a nonwoven or a film of synthetic material. Pref. additive is an 8-22C fatty acid amide or metal salt, esp. used at 0.05-2% on wt. of thermoplastic. Used esp. for temporary protection of e.g. laminated glass, stainless steel, PMMA, polycarbonate, anodised Al sheets, etc. during machining, cutting, drilling, etc., to protect against scratching, impact etc. The thermoplastic coating may be applied simply by extrusion-calendering onto the support, avoiding the need for solvents, drying stations etc.
