Abstract

Granulated dielectric material is dried by super-high frequency heating as it is passed along a heating space at a non constant velocity by a stream of air heated to a temperature 20-50 degrees C below that to which the material is heated. The non constant velocity is effected by alternating zones of intensified and relatively calm granular motion. The process is carried out in a device comprising an elongated waveguide through which the granules are propelled and which is connected to a super-high frequency generator via an air separator which removes the moist air. After passage through the waveguide the particles are fed into a resonator bin. The dried granules may be used from the bin, recycled for further heating, or fed to the next of a series of waveguides connected in series. Used in drying plastics granules (granules of ABS plastics are quoted) or cereal and oil crops.
