Abstract

The high current alternating voltage supply for a load is varied without cutting off the supply. This is achieved by connecting the primary of a transformer to a bridge switching circuit (4). The transformer secondary winding (1) is connected in series with a conductor (2) supplying a load. The bridge circuit (4) contains thyristor controlled from a programmer (11) to close or open the respective switches when the supply voltage increases or decreases. An impedance (6) connects the load conductor to the bridge in order to limit the current when the supply is short circuited during the transition while one pair of switches are closed before another pair are open circuited.
