Abstract

For use with a flushable water closet, the float actuated valve effects an instantaneous closure of the feed to the header tank. It utilises two floats on the ends of a 'V' shaped lever with an apex fulcrum. The lever has a long arm and a short arm; a large spherical float (F1) is fixed to the end of the former, and a small float (F2) is fixed to the later. When the tank is empty the large float adopts a gravity governed low position, the small float occupying a high position horizontally opposite the fulcrum. The arm geometry ensures that the floats straddle the vertical plane containing the fulcrum. As a result the large float remains depressed until the rising water elevates the small float, then traversing the vertical plane containing the fulcrum and rising rapidly to the surface to effect valve closure.
